Meet and ride with GCN!
Ride with Simon Richardson and Jeremy Powers
If you know, you know. But on the off-chance you don’t, Global Cycling Network is the world’s biggest and best road cycling community, the largest online cycling channel and the ultimate one-stop destination for everything a roadie could ever want, beloved by millions for their original, witty and top-notch biking content.
This year, they will be attempting to qualify for the 2020 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, held at RBC GranFondo Whistler next year. And of course, there’s a twist to come…
Presented by ex-pro riders and beginning life in the UK, GCN brings you essential insight and unparalleled access to riders, teams, races, bikes, manufacturers, training, tips, tricks, features and cutting-edge bicycle-tech every day, every week, every month, and every year. And this year, they’re coming to RBC GranFondo Whistler.
What’s the plan?
You can meet presenters Simon Richardson and Jeremy Powers who will be taking the time out of their eclectic filming schedules* to be at VeloSpoke Bike Expo and new Friday night Pasta Party.
10 years a pro, including five in the Great Britain Cycling Team on a mountain bike racing at World Championships and Commonwealth Games, Simon Richardson moved to road racing for British-based professional teams against some of the best riders in the world.
He enjoys not taking himself too seriously, a good British accent, and powering up hills surrounded by beautiful coastal mountains [ahem].
Jeremy Powers is an American professional racing cyclist, not just across cyclo-cross – for which he is best known. He has an extensive palmares that includes four US national titles, and top-level CX racing in Europe – spanning a career that includes 10 years as a professional road rider.
Jeremy is one of the newest and most exciting additions to the GCN roster, representing the good ol’ US of A.
The twist
On the day of the ride, they’ll be attempting to qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships – but it’s not that straight-forward. Oh no…
Their challenge is to qualify in the top 20% of their age group but on classic (pre 1987) road bikes. None of this fancy carbon lightweight tomfoolery for these gentlemen, only the old-school machinery of days gone by. Can they do it? We’ll just have to find out!
You can meet and ride alongside Jeremy and Simon too – all you have to do is be registered for the event (and if you’re similarly inclined, there’s the 122km classic bike category to enter too).
Join the ride now to get up close and personal with true cycling royalty.
Think you could beat GCN, or simply want to engage in some frivolous banter with the kings of cycling chat? Get yourself signed up now.
*Witty content doesn’t create itself, so times of meet & greets are subject to change. C’est la vie…
